Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Female Urinary Incontinence

Cystocele Repair

A cystocele or dropped bladder is a condition that affects many women as they age. The condition or more common in women who have had multiple pregnancies and/or prior uterine surgeries. It is manifested by a feeling of bulging in the vagina and may exist with or without incontinence. A cystocele can be repair in a variety of ways. During a cystocele repair the surgeon can use a piece of cadaver graft material to hold the bladder in place. The graft is attached to strong ligaments in the pelvis.

Robotic or Open Sacrocolpopexy

A cystocele or dropped bladder is a condition that affects many women as they age. The condition or more common in women who have had multiple pregnancies and/or prior uterine surgeries. It is manifested by a feeling of bulging in the vagina and may exist with or without incontinence. A cystocele can also be repaired by making an abdominal incision and tack the vagina to the pelvic bones. This can be done with or without the aid of a robot in some cases.

Mid Urethral Sling

Often times when the bladder has dropped the urethra also drops and this allows urine to leak during stress maneuvers such as coughing and sneezing. During a mid urethral sling, under anesthesia a small incision is made in the vagina and a sling is placed under the urethra and allows a backbone of support for the urethra.

Botox

Some men and women suffer from frequent urination. Although we have many many excellent medications to improve this condition occasionally medications are unable to alleviate a particular patient's symptoms. Botox, which has been used to help correct wrinkles in the skin can also be used to relax the bladder. By injecting small amounts of botox throughout the bladder the bladder can be made to relax and therefore decrease the urgency and frequency symptoms.

Peripheral Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS)

Some men and women suffer from frequent urination. Although we have many many excellent medications to improve this condition occasionally medications are unable to alleviate a particular patient's symptoms. Using Peripheral Tibial Nerve Stimulation, urologists can use a tiny accupuncture needle connected to a very very small electrical charge to improve symptoms in a completely non operative and non invasive way.

Interstim

Some men and women suffer from frequent urination. Although we have many many excellent medications to improve this condition occasionally medications are unable to alleviate a particular patient's symptoms. Using interstim, urologist can use a tiny electrode and place this next to the nerves that control urination. The stimulation can be manipulated to decrease urinary frequency, treat some types of urinary retention and even treat some forms of fecal incontinence.

Trasobturator Tape

Trasobturator Tape with or without cystocele repair is a procedure done under anesthesia to treat stress urinary incontinence with or without a dropped bladder. This procedure is done by placing a piece of mesh under the urethra to support it. This helps to prevent downward movement of the bladder and urethra during actions of sneezing, coughing, standing, exercising, etc. to prevent incontinence.
